Ohio Today celebrates ohiowomen and OHIO women

Televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker Messner resumes the spotlight, thanks to a star turn from Shelley Delaney, OHIO associate professor of performance, in a new play she co-created. Alumna Lisa Barnhouse, AB ’73, stands at the head of the class as an education advocate for students with special needs in the Ohio school system. Artist Lauren Purje, BFA ’09, inks an autobiographical comic strip about her beginnings in the genre. Read the issue online here or go to the online extras.

Those stories and more in ohiowomen, a commemorative winter magazine produced by Ohio Today! This annual edition celebrates female Bobcats and the similarly named ohiowomen—the University’s recently launched networking and supportive initiative for OHIO women of all kinds: alumnae, students, faculty, and staff.

The December publication also includes coverage of two events in Ohio offered by the ohiowomen initiative: a roundtable in Columbus, at which participants discussed professional and personal goals; and a kickoff in Cleveland, at which executive coach Beverly Jones, BSJ ’69, MBA ’75, spoke about the importance of taking initiative.

The December publication also includes coverage of two events in Ohio offered by the ohiowomen initiative, featuring keynote addresses by executive coach Beverly Jones, BSJ ’69, MBA ’75. The first was a September kickoff in Cleveland, where Jones spoke about the importance of taking initiative. The second was a Columbus roundtable in October where participants discussed professional and personal goals.

Plus, a feature hoops it up with two Bobcats among Hornets—as in the National Basketball Association team in Charlotte, North Carolina. Donna Julian, BSPE ’85, runs the arena and event operations, and Rhonda Curry, BSC ’96, BBA ’96, is the human resources executive. Also, OHIO graduate student Melissa Riggs pursues visual storytelling about her volunteerism in Jordan through a Graduate College Fellowship. And six 1986 freshmen—five female, one male—wind up as extended family because of the bonds they formed at OHIO.

Pick up the edition for those pieces, online extras, online exclusives, a thematic brainteaser, and more!
