Meet the October Classified Employee of the Month

Great job Theresa Meyer!

Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," provides a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.

How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?

Very! I had no inkling prior to receiving the award.

What is your job title and how long have you worked it?

I am the chief dispatcher for the Department of Aviation and have been for 8 ½ years.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job?

I really enjoy working with the students, and helping them succeed at Ohio University.

What is your hometown and where do you live now?

I moved quite a bit before I came here. I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, raised in the suburbs of Houston and went to high school and college in Colorado. I live in Athens now and love the small-town feel.

What are your long-term goals?

I would love to get my master’s degree and work as a veterans’ advocate.

What was the last good book you read?

I loved “Presidential Wives, an Anecdotal History,” but now, I read baby books to my grandson.

If you weren’t in your present job, you would be working as a ______.

I would probably do something in the field of helping veterans. I see such a great need for advocacy in this population.

What things in life are the most important to you?

My family. I wouldn’t make it very far without the support and love from my family.

Where is your favorite vacation destination?

I like cruising. Days at sea are peaceful and beautiful and I like to take tours at the ports of call that teach me about the local area.

What are your hobbies?

I love baking and playing board and card games.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I collect teddy bears and have about 400 of them.

What are your favorite TV shows?

NCIS (all three series), Big Bang Theory, Jeopardy and other game shows

Who are your favorite musicians?

Neil Diamond is hands-down my favorite singer. I have a fairly wide range of music I like country, pop and classic rock.

What is the next big event you can't wait for?

Thanksgiving, because my family will be together.

Who are your favorite celebrities?

I don’t know that I have any favorites, but I do like to read when celebrities do positive things and act as positive role models.

Who are the most annoying celebrities to you?

The Kardashians and Paris Hilton. I see no need to be intimately aware of every aspect of their lives. Also, so much of their publicity is negative.

What is your dream car/truck/SUV?

I would love to eventually own a Jaguar, the XJ6 has been my favorite model so far. More realistically, I like the look of the new Ford Escape.

What is your favorite saying or quote?

“Nobody’s perfect,” or as I usually say it, “Pobody’s Nerfect!” It helps me remember that everybody has their own battles, and I may not know what they are, so I should treat everybody with respect.
