Undergraduate Juried Exhibition: Opening reception is today

The School of Art + Design is proud to announce this year’s annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition. The exhibition consists of a variety of works by undergraduate students enrolled in any class in the School of Art + Design.

Out of 165 pieces entered into the show by 89 artists, juror, Travis Townsend selected 64 pieces by 39 artists in their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior years to be displayed in the 2015 exhibition.
The juror, Travis Townsend, studied at Kutztown University and Virginia Commonwealth University (MFA, 2000). He’s been published in the New American Paintings, the Manifest International Drawing Annual, and The Penland Book of Woodworking, and has received awards from various institutions. He lives in Lexington, KY and teaches drawing, concepts, and art criticism at Eastern Kentucky University.
Townsend juried the exhibition Wednesday & Thursday, November 4-5, selecting the work and three Juror’s Awards of Excellence.
Townsend said “I ended up with a solid group of interesting, original, and sometimes poignant artworks...pieces that went beyond a typical “project” and began to get to someplace original and personal.”
Other awards that will be presented at the reception include the President’s Prize in Art, College of Fine Art Dean’s Awards (Margaret Brown Krecker Prize in Art and Sina Sidwell Rodgers Prize in Fine Arts), Director’s Choice Award, Excellence in Art Award from Lamborn’s, and Excellence in Art Award from The College Bookstore.
