Professor Don Flournoy retirement reception is Dec. 11


The Ohio University School of Media Arts & Studies will host a retirement reception for longtime professor Don Flournoy from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11 in the Lower Atrium of the Schoonover Center.

He is retiring after 44 years of service. His teaching and research areas are the application of media and communication technologies to the solution of human problems and the establishment of public policy that facilitates free and open public access to broadband communication networks.

Flournoy has served on the Board of Advisors of the Intelligent Community Forum sponsored by the National Space Society. Their charge is to design the next generation of satellites and related infrastructure that will collect energy in space and deliver it to earth as renewable electricity.

He also was project manager for experiments aboard NASA’s Advanced Communication Satellite, editor of the Online Journal of Space Communication and the director of SunSat Design, an international competition sponsored by the National Space Society.
