Two Ohio University alumni appointed as national trustees

The Ohio University Board of Trustees has chosen two OHIO alumni, Laura A. Brege and David W. Pidwell, to serve on the Board as national trustees. Resolutions announcing Brege’s and Pidwell’s appointments were approved at the Board's October meeting.

“We feel extremely fortunate to welcome Laura and David to our Board of Trustees,” said Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis. “Their respective skill sets, coupled with their passion for Ohio University, will allow them to make meaningful contributions as national trustees to our transformative learning community in the years ahead.”

Laura A. Brege received her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College and her Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. She is currently the managing director of Cervantes Life Sciences Partners, LLC, a consulting company that partners with executive teams, boards, and investors to build companies.

Brege has more than 25 years of executive management experience in various fields including pharmaceutical, biotechnology and venture capital industries. Most recently, Brege served as the president and CEO of Nodality, Inc., a biotechnology company. Prior to her position at Nodality, Brege held several senior-level positions at Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a global oncology company, including executive vice president and chief operating officer. Earlier, Brege was a general partner at Red Rock Capital Management, a venture capital firm investing in early stage technology companies. Brege also held several senior-level management positions at COR Therapeutics, Flextronics, Inc. and The Cooper Companies.

In addition, Brege serves on the Board of Directors of Acadia Pharmaceuticals, Aratana Therapeutics, Dynavax Technologies, Pacira Pharmaceuticals, and Portola Pharmaceuticals.

“I am honored to be a part of the Board of Ohio University,” Brege said. “OHIO is a special place to me and I look forward to helping to continue to grow our great University.”

David W. Pidwell completed his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and his master’s degree in industrial and systems engineering from Ohio University. He has also completed three years of study at Stanford University towards a doctorate in engineering economic systems.

Since 1999, Pidwell has served as a faculty member, lecturer or student mentor at Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He is also a member of the board of visitors for Ohio University’s Russ College of Engineering and Technology and serves as a trustee of the Ohio University Foundation.

Pidwell has been a partner with Alloy Ventures, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm, since January 1996. His investment activities are concentrated in the computer software industry, primarily with companies addressing enterprise information management, the internet or software-as-a-service fields. Pidwell currently serves on the Board of Directors of Informatica Corp. and Xactly Corp.

Before founding and managing Ransa Corp., a mechanical design automation software company, Pidwell was the president and general manager of the mil-spec computer division of Rolm Corp.

“I look forward to being an active participant in providing a transformative learning experience for OHIO students while working to build an academic environment rewarding to all individuals who support our cause,” Pidwell said.

National trustees, who are distinguished out-of-state University alumni, are selected by a vote of the Board and serve three-year terms, with an option to extend the term for an additional three years. National trustees are non-voting members of the Board.
