IRONTON, Ohio – More than $70,000 in donor-based scholarships were available for Ohio University Southern students for the 2015-16 academic year. For many, these scholarships are crucial to fulfilling their academic dreams.

Friday the Southern Campus hosted its first Scholarship Donor/ Recipient Reception in the Mains Rotunda. Dean Nicole Pennington said, “This unique event gives our scholarship recipients a chance to thank those who have so generously donated to their education.”

Louise Stanley, recipient of the Myrtle E. and Lloyd Wood Memorial Scholarship, is an early childhood major. Her eyes filled with tears as she expressed her gratitude for her scholarship. “I was at the end of my financial aid and this scholarship allowed me to continue working toward my degree,” she said. “I am so excited that I had a chance to tell them how much this means to me.”

Kira Dillon, also an early childhood major, was one of the recipients of the Clifford E. and Jean Peters Allen Scholarship. “This scholarship allowed me to keep reaching for my goals,” she continued, “because of these [donors] and their generosity, they’ve helped students like me continue our education.”
