Southern Campus’ Equestrian Team raises funds for Western Dressage World Show

PEDRO, Ohio – The Ohio University Southern Equestrian Team raised $1,100 at its barbecue, arena challenge and silent auction, hosted at Elkins Creek Horsecamp, on Sept. 12.

The event was such a hit, participants were already asking about next year. “Some of the campers asked when we would have another event and already wanted to book for next year to show their support,” said Bradie Chapman, lecturer and assistant coordinator of the Ohio Horse Park Center for Therapeutic Riding.

The following day, the campus’ Equestrian Studies staff and students held an American Competitive Trail Horse Association-sanctioned Competitive Trail Challenge (CTC) and raised money for the Ohio Horse Park of Therapeutic Horsemanship Center. Chapman said, “Participants told us they really enjoyed the challenging obstacles for the CTC and having students as judges.”

The Equestrian Team will continue its efforts to raise money for the Western Dressage World Show scheduled for Nov. 6-8 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“Currently the team has raised $2,500 and just received $500 from a generous donor from Colorado that has kept in touch with us after meeting,” she said. “The team is submitting a proposal for a $1,500 matching funds grant from the United States Equestrian Federation.”

Future fundraising events include the Bobcat Trail Trot 5K on Oct. 24 and the Bobcat Dressage Show and Combined Training on Oct. 31. Ohio University Southern can also accept donations to the team by mailing them to the OUS Equestrian Team, c/o Ohio Horse Park, Box 158, Franklin Furnace, OH 45629.
