Campus Rec announces extended hours at Ping Center

Starting this fall, the Charles J. Ping Recreation Center has extended its operation hours in order to help better accommodate its users. Ohio University's Ping Center will now be open from 6 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to midnight on Saturday. Sunday hours remain noon to midnight.

According to Meagan Wain, assistant director of the Ping Center and Walter Fieldhouse, these changes have already received positive feedback from University students, faculty and staff.

“We are trying to make a lot of positive changes in Campus Recreation this year, and this is just one step of getting there. We had 115 patrons swipe in the first hour we were open on Monday the 24th, the first day of classes.”

In addition to longer hours, the Ping Center will remain open during breaks for those still on campus. In the past, the center closed its doors when a majority of students left campus for winter and spring break.

“It gives them [faculty] that much more time to be in the facility before they have to get their offices. We have had positive responses from groups like ROTC and some faculty/staff cross-fit groups as well,” explained Wain.

Plans are also in progress to incorporate Saturday morning fitness classes and other programming to provide more services to patrons during extended breaks.

“We’re currently in the process of evaluating what our usage patterns and numbers are during these new hours so we can determine what kind of programming would work best,” Wain said.

OHIO Campus Recreation provides quality, inclusive recreation experiences designed to positively impact the intellectual and personal development of OHIO students and the vitality of the OHIO community.
