OHIO to welcome parents to campus Sept. 18-20

It's finally that time of year again— Parents Weekend at Ohio University. OHIO will host moms, dads, grandparents and other family members on the Athens Campus from Friday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 20.

If you're looking for some fun events to attend with your family this weekend, check out these family-friendly activities:

•  The “Friends”-themed Parent’s Brunch will be hosted by the University Program Council on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Baker University Center Ballroom. This coffee shop atmosphere will include a breakfast buffet, a photo booth with the infamous orange couch and “Friends”-themed decorations throughout the event. Section 8, an all male a capella student group, will also perform. Tickets are $15 per person.

•  The Bobcats football team will battle Southeastern Louisiana at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 in Peden Stadium. Don't miss your chance to also see new performances by the Ohio University Marching 110.

•  Take your family to see the OHIO hockey team hit the ice against John Carroll at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 and Saturday, Sept. 19 in Bird Arena. Student tickets are $6 and all other tickets are $8. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Children under 5 are free.

•  If you're looking to put a bit of adventure into your Parents Weekend, head out to The Ridges on Saturday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 20 for the chance to fly down a 300 foot zip line. Tickets are $25 per person and include all equipment, instruction and a shuttle to the zip line facility. Meet in front of the Ping Center 15 minutes before your scheduled time.

•  Get ready to laugh your pants off this weekend at the Blue Pencil Comedy Weekend Open Mic Night at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 in the Baker University Center Bobcat Student Lounge. An evening of fun and laughs with a student-run stand-up comedy group will keep you laughing all night long. Admission is free.

•  If you’re looking for a relaxing and enjoyable activity to partake in this weekend, Movie Classics at the Athena Cinema will be screening “Raising Arizona” at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 and Saturday, Sept. 19. Holly Hunter, Nicolas Cage and John Goodman star in this beloved Coen brothers’ crime comedy. Admission is $6.50.
