The inspiration for 'Jerry Maguire' to speak on campus

The Ohio University’s College of Business will host a talk by popular sports agent Leigh Steinberg at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in Bentley Hall 140.

Steinberg will discuss his career as one of the top sports agents in the high-stakes world of professional sports. He has had many accomplished NFL superstars as his clients, including Troy Aikman, Bruce Smith and Ben Roethlisberger.

One of the best known player agents in the history of sports, Steinberg was the inspiration for director Cameron Crowe's titular character in the hit movie, "Jerry Maguire."

Steinberg has also extended his players’ influence into the entertainment world and has negotiated many record-breaking compensation packages.

Despite reaching the pinnacle of the sports agent world, he has had to overcome a series of prominent struggles to regain his sobriety before launching a comeback. He will discuss this topic and many more at the free talk that is open to the public.
