Annual Community Volunteer Fair to be held Sept. 15 on Athens Campus

Whether you are new to the city of Athens or looking for new ways to contribute to the community, Ohio University’s Annual Community Volunteer Fair offers everyone an opportunity to get involved and make a difference.

Hosted by OHIO’s Office of Community Engagement within the Division of Student Affairs, this year’s community volunteer fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, on the patio outside the fourth floor entrance to Baker University Center.  (In the event of inclement weather, the fair will be moved inside of Baker University Center.)

Open to all Ohio University students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the local community, the fair provides a venue for individuals to connect with local nonprofits and to explore volunteer opportunities available in the area.
“One of the strengths of our programs is that we do partner with community agencies,” explained Barbara Harrison, assistant director for community engagement, who noted that the volunteer fair has a more than 20-year history at Ohio University and aligns with the University’s five core values of community, character, civility, citizenship and commitment. “That is a primary role that we play – connecting students, and sometimes faculty and staff, too, to nonprofits in the community, so they can volunteer and make a difference.”

This year’s fair will feature approximately 30 nonprofits that cater to a variety of interests, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Southeast Ohio Foodbank, Good Works Inc., and Friends of the Shelter Dogs.
