Campus Rec launching low-cost fitness programs with personalized instruction

Ohio University Campus Recreation is offering two brand-new fitness programs that offer hands-on and individualized instruction that utilizes all areas of the Ping Recreation Center.

The goal of both programs is that by the end of the semester participants will have made notable fitness progress and increased their exercise knowledge, which will allow for a greater sense of confidence when pursuing an individual exercise program at the Ping Center in the future.

Bobcat BarBelles is a nine-week women’s strength training program that allows those who may not have prior experience in a weight room or knowledge of lifting technique to work in a group setting with their peers and BarBelles coaches. Specifically, this program is aimed at educating participants on female-specific topics in fitness.

“Participants in Bobcat BarBelles will learn and practice proper technique for the squat, bench press, overhead press, and deadlift barbell movements, which are the foundation for many different areas of health and fitness,” explains Joe Schillero, assistant director of fitness at OHIO Campus Recreation. “Participants will also receive valuable information on topics such as women’s fitness, nutrition, exercise program design, health and dietary supplements, and more.”

Those interested may register online at www.recshop.ohio.edu. The one-time registration fee of $30 includes a Bobcat BarBelles tank top. Registration will close at the time of the first meeting, which will take place on Monday, Sept. 21, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Ping Recreation Center Meeting Rooms.

OHIO Fit Club is an inclusive small-group fitness program that offers workout plans, fitness direction, and accountability through weekly meetings with a personal trainer. In addition, participants will receive a workout binder with a personalized exercise program. These resources allow participants to learn more about exercise, receive a well-designed program, and have access to resources and accountability that will help members achieve their fitness goals.

Participants can choose from two groups based on their fitness needs: tight and tone, which focuses on weight loss, and peak performance, which focuses on maximizing athletic potential.

Those interested may register at the Ping Center front desk or online at www.recshop.ohio.edu. This program requires a one-time registration fee of $50 and the first meeting will take place on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m. in the Ping Center Meeting Rooms. Registration will remain open throughout the semester.
