Bobcat Battalion holding 9/11 memorial, stair challenge

Ohio University’s Army ROTC Program, also known as the Bobcat Battalion, will be hosting its first-ever Stair Challenge Memorial to honor the lives lost in and the heroism displayed by first responders following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The Bobcat Battalion’s Stair Challenge Memorial will begin at 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Peden Stadium on Ohio University’s Athens Campus. The event will begin with an opening memorial ceremony. Following the ceremony, those in attendance will be invited to run 2,071 steps in Peden Stadium to commemorate the 2,071 steps in the fallen World Trade Center.

This event is open to the entire OHIO and surrounding communities. It is free, and apparel will be awarded to three participants selected at random.

The Bobcat Battalion hopes to build upon this inaugural event in future years with a goal of making it a fundraiser for the Fisher House Foundation, which provides free or low-cost lodging to military and veterans’ families while their loved ones are receiving medical treatment.
