University mourns sudden death of custodial worker Connie Bruker

Ohio University employee Connie E. Bruker, 60, of Coolville, Ohio, died on Monday, May 2, at her home.

The Athens, Ohio, native joined the staff in Ohio University’s Custodial Services department on May 3, 1999. She worked second shift in the department before accepting a position with Residential Custodial Service’s East Green staff approximately 11 years ago.

“Connie was liked by everyone,” said Steve Schall, manager of University Custodial Services. “She was dependable, and she will be missed by all.”

“Connie was a hard-working, dedicated employee with a wonderful personality,” said Steve Mack, director of Facilities Management, who noted that Bruker made a point of stopping by to say hello when he recently visited Scott Quad. “She will be quite missed by her coworkers, the student that she interacted with, and me. Connie was always a pleasure to be around.”

Bruker was preceded in death by her parents Kermit and Rachel Bowers Clark and a sister, Teresa Clark. She is survived by her husband, Leonard Bruker; son, Adam Bruker; and two daughters, Michele Jones, and Tara McVey. She also left behind eight grandchildren; two brothers, Mark Clark and Brian Clark; a sister, Debbie Clark; and a half-sister, Jody Fluharty.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville, Ohio. A burial service will follow in the Coolville Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5.
