Meet the July 2014 Classified Employee of the Month

Great job April Butterworth!

Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," will provide a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.

How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?

I was completely shocked and I am honored to be nominated as the classified employee of the month.

What is your job title and how long have you worked it?

I have been an administrative associate for the senior associate vice president for finance and administration for two years.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job?

The most enjoyable things are the people I work for and work with. They are a true blessing to be around.

What is your hometown and where do you live now?

My hometown is Athens, but I live in the Albany area.

What are your long-term goals?

I would love to further my education in business so that I can advance my career within the Ohio University Finance Division.

What was the last good book you read?

The Holy Bible

If you weren’t in your present job, you would be working as a ______.

I would be working with children. I love to watch their enthusiasm and zest for life. It makes me feel like a child.

What things in life are the most important to you?

My husband and children are the most important things in my life. Everything I do is for them.

Where is your favorite vacation destination?

I love the Smoky Mountains. I am amazed at all of God's workmanship and beauty.

What are your hobbies?

Riding 4-wheelers and hanging out with my family and occasionally crocheting.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

Prior to working at Ohio University, I worked on a production line as a sanitation operator in a pizza factory. I also drove forklifts in the receiving department at a condiments factory.

What is your favorite TV show?

Grey’s Anatomy

Who are your favorite musicians?

I have always been a Reba McEntire fan and I also enjoy listening to Tracy Byrd and George Straight.

What is the next big event you can't wait for?

It is the little events that make your life worth living. You are never guaranteed tomorrow so I find that every day is a new adventure and I am thankful and look forward to each and every day.

What is your dream car/truck/SUV?

I want a restored 1960s Ford Mustang.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me -- Philippians 4:13
