President McDavis welcomes students back

In this message sent Monday, Aug. 25, to Ohio University students, President Roderick J. McDavis welcomes them back for fall semester 2014.

Dear Students,

Each fall, your return to campus brings with it an energy, passion and creativity that revitalizes Ohio University and Athens! We have many great things in store for the 2014-15 academic year and are very glad that you have chosen to be a part of our exciting journey!

As an Ohio University student, you play an important role in helping our university achieve its vision of becoming the nation’s best transformative learning community. As the academic year unfolds, I encourage you to share your ideas by visiting my office during my monthly open office hours, joining me at Bobcat Coffee Hour, emailing me at, or by talking with your student leaders. I also welcome you to follow my new blog and the new Office of the President Twitter account.

This is a very exciting time in higher education and an even more exciting time to be a Bobcat. With your help and through the work of OHIO’s dedicated and passionate faculty and staff, Ohio University is emerging as a highly sought-after educational partner, an economic driver and a leading public research university. As a result, we are expanding our footprint, growing our enrollment and actively addressing societal needs.

As we set about these important tasks, know that our central mission is to support you as you pursue your personal and professional goals at Ohio University. It is our hope that your future endeavors will be greatly enhanced by your experiences at Ohio University.

Bobcats, make the most of your journey. Forge new connections at every turn. And know that although transformation cannot be quantified, it is by far the greatest gift that you will take away from Ohio University.

Again, welcome back. I look forward to hearing from you!

Go Bobcats!
