Baker University Center will host many student activities this spring

Center’s upcoming events include free coffee, relaxation station and Baker Bash


Ohio University’s Campus Involvement Center is ready to kick off the new year with a slew of student activities that begin the first day of spring semester and continue through April.

The Campus Involvement Center will welcome Bobcats back to campus with free coffee beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, outside the fourth floor of Baker University Center. Coffee will be available while supplies last.

On Tuesday, Jan. 13, the center resumes its “How-To Series” with a program that will teach students how to make homemade hot chocolate. The “How-To Series” is held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in the Baker University Center Theatre Lounge and provides students an opportunity to take a break from their busy schedules to learn a new and interesting skill. These events are free and open to anyone interested in participating. “How-To” programs for the remainder of spring semester include:

•   Jan. 20 – “How to do Improv Comedy”
•   Jan. 27 – “How to Make Dream Catchers”
•   Feb. 3 – “How to Engage in Self Defense”
•   Feb. 10 – “How to Make Tissue Paper Flowers”
•   Feb. 17 – “How to Make Sushi”
•   Feb. 24 – “How to do Card Tricks”
•   March 10 – “How to Hip-Hop Dance”
•   March 17 – “How to Make Paracord Bracelets”
•   March 24 – “How to Build a Resume”
•   March 31 – “How to Make T-shirt Scarfs”
•   April 7 – “How to Plant a Flower”
•   April 14 – International Week Edition (details to be announced later)
•   April 21 – “How to do Henna Tattoos”

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, the Campus Involvement Center invites members of the OHIO community to an afternoon of pampering at its Relaxation Station. Scheduled for noon to 4 p.m. on the fourth floor of Baker University Center, the Relaxation Station will include aqua massage beds, chair massagers, foot/leg massagers and pillow massagers – all available at no charge.

Later that month, the Campus Involvement Center will be bringing Las Vegas to Ohio University with the Baker Bash, scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in Baker University Center. The evening will include a casino, $2,000 worth of prizes, a magician, live band karaoke, a flare bartender serving mocktails, and more.

Expect more announcements in the weeks to come about these and other Campus Involvement Center events, and don’t forget about the following recurring events the center hosts throughout the year:

•   Singer Songwriter, 7 p.m., Tuesdays, 1804 Lounge on fifth floor of Baker University Center, providing an opportunity for singers and songwriters to share ideas and support each other in their art.
•   Flavor of the Week, noon to 3 p.m., Wednesdays, Bobcat Student Lounge on first floor of Baker University Center, featuring desserts and healthy treats all revolving around one flavor; sponsored by the University Program Council.
•   Open Stage, 8 to 9:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Front Room at Baker University Center, hosted by local musician Bruce Dalzell.
•   Acoustic Café, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Thursdays, Baker University Center Theatre Lounge, featuring Athens-area musicians.
•   Black Sheep Improv (LINK: http://blacksheepou.tumblr.com/), 9 p.m., Thursdays, Baker University Center Theatre, featuring OHIO’s only improv comedy organization.
•   Open Stage, 8 to 11 p.m., Fridays, Front Room at Baker University Center, hosted by local musician Bruce Dalzell.
•   Blue Pencil Comedy, 8 p.m., Saturdays, Bobcat Student Lounge on first floor of Baker
University Center, featuring OHIO’s student-run stand-up comedy organization.
