Alumni invited to gather for On The Green Weekend May 27-31, 2015

The Ohio University Alumni Association (OUAA) is hard at work preparing for its second-ever On The Green Weekend: a Spring Homecoming centered on academics and the arts. The weekend will be jam-packed with activities for the entire Bobcat community.

“On The Green will celebrate everything there is to love about Athens in the spring,” said Dawn Werry, director of external relations for the Alumni Association. “Alumni are able to take fascinating courses offered by faculty experts, mingle on College Green, dine at our eclectic restaurants Uptown and so much more.”

The events will kick off on Wednesday, May 27 with various tours throughout Athens and on campus, including the Underground Railroad, the “Little Cities of the Black Diamond” and OHIO’s very own College of Fine Arts gallery.

On Thursday, May 28, OHIO alumni and friends are invited to enjoy a complimentary breakfast at Nelson Dining Hall, attend an Alumni College luncheon and watch the highlighted 1965 Filmfest at The Athena. A welcome reception and balloon release will finish off the night with food, music and entertainment.

The Alumni Leader’s Conference will take place throughout the weekend, starting on Friday, May 29. That morning, attendees can enjoy college-hosted breakfasts and a unique lunch presented by the Diversity Alumni Advisory Board. Friday evening the Putnam County Spelling Bee will take place in the Baker University Theatre, along with the Filmfest showcasing 1975 movies at The Athena.

Saturday, May 30 will offer even more exciting OHIO events, like a brunch celebration at Pepsi Tailgreat Park, hayrides at The Ridges and an emeriti reception. Individual dinners will be held for the Golden/Platinum Classes, Student Senate, the Thomas Ewing Society and LGBT alumni. The bars Uptown will also be stylishly decorated to represent past decades.

The weekend will conclude on Sunday, May 31 with an “OH, I dO” ceremony at the Konneker Alumni Center and a farewell brunch on West Green.

Although the many reunion activities are sure to keep the OHIO community busy all weekend long, the 2015 Nelsonville Music Festival will also be occurring from May 28-31, providing even more options for entertainment.

“This weekend will reignite the spark of Athens within all of our alumni, with countless options for entertainment, arts and learning. I encourage all alumni and friends to attend,” Werry said.
