For the sixth consecutive year, the Healthy Ohio wellness initiative is conducting free health screenings for Ohio University staff members and their spouses/partners through WellWorks.
The screenings will be held Monday through Thursday, Sept. 16 to Nov. 7 from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Human Resources and Training Center located at 169 W. Union St. Athens, Ohio.
All employees who choose to participate in this program will receive a $120 insurance premium reduction for one year ($10 per month before taxes). Couples who participate will receive a $240 insurance premium reduction added to the paycheck of the Ohio University employee. The reduction is set to begin January 2014.
As in years past, the wellness initiative has three steps, but there has been a slight alteration this year.
The first step of the program is a 15- to 20-minute health screening. An appointment is necessary for this step and participants are encouraged to call as early as possible.
Step 2 is a Personal Wellness Profile. This year, the results of the health screenings will be uploaded to the Personal Wellness Profile system. The system will then email personalized health summary reports to the client rather than mailing them as in previous years.
Step 3 involves individual health coaching sessions, which will be held Oct. 7 through Dec. 12 in Grover Center E124. The sessions help participants better understand their results and provide them with the necessary resources to help themselves.
"I think people should join the initiative because it gives them a great point of reference and a way to map progress. The coaching really brings a personal side to it," said Kim Valentour, director of Wellworks. "It is really hard to know where to begin and this is a great way to start."
