Fluctuating seasonal temperatures affecting interior temperatures in Athens Campus buildings

Steam heat cannot be turned on before cooling systems are shut down

Facilities Maintenance has requested the Facilities Work Center notify the Athens campus community of the following:

Due to fluctuating exterior temperatures, building occupants across Athens campus may experience less than optimal interior building temperatures. At this time, Ohio University is not on full heating mode. This means that the steam has not been turned on to all of the buildings on campus. Certain buildings only have systems that allow heating or cooling at one time. These systems cannot be turned off and on in a day. Right now, the cooling system will remain on until the temperatures are forecast to be too cold to require cooling. The steam to the buildings cannot be turned on before the cooling systems are shut down.

This means that there will be buildings on campus that will be cool on certain days when the temperatures are lower than 60 degrees. We apologize for the inconvenience, but there will be several days this fall that will still require air conditioning. Facilities Management will be watching the forecast and trying to determine the best day to turn off the cooling systems and to start up the heating systems. This annual transition from air conditioning to heating can be uncomfortable and we appreciate your patience as we make every attempt to maintain interior temperatures during this seasonal transition.

Facilities regret any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience. If you have any questions, please contact 593-2911.
