Ohio University Refuse and Recycling Manager Andrew Ladd reported that 23.5 pounds of furniture, clothes and other reusable goods were collected during move-out weekend earlier this month. An additional 4 tons of food were collected from students headed home for the summer and redistributed to more than 350 local families as well as the Southeastern Ohio Regional Foodbank and Kitchen.
ReUse Industries, the Athens County Fair Board and Golden Gate 4-H Club helped with the collection efforts, which included 167 futons with metal frames, 925 carpets and rugs, 44 wooden chairs, 111 upholstered folding chairs, 56 floor lamps, 11 shower caddies, 37 boxes of miscellaneous housewares and school supplies, and much more.
