From staff reports
In the past 20 years, Ohio University's presence on the Internet has evolved quite a bit and it's about to change yet again.
The redesigned front door of ohio.edu will launch in fall of 2014. The new ohio.edu aims to create a positive first impression for prospective students and their parents, while meeting varying needs of the University community through an efficient user-friendly design.
Before the new ohio.edu launches, University Communications and Marketing invites you to take a trip down memory lane through this photo essay to see how far ohio.edu has come since 1994. You know what they say -- once it's on the Internet, it's there forever.
With big round buttons directing you to news, fun and links, this version of ohio.edu was the longest running look. From 1994 to 2000, this was the page cybersurfers found when they typed www.ohio.edu.
A sleeker design took over from 2000 to 2002. Under the watchful gaze of the bobcat, web visitors were guided to categories depending on their connection to the University -- Prospective Students, Current Students, Faculty & Staff, Alumni & Friends and Infoseekers. And long before Twitter came on the scene, OHIO was using the @ symbol to tell people what was happening "Today @ OHIO."
Making way to spotlight campus beauty, this version of ohio.edu was present 2002 to 2003. Incorporating quick links and a search function, this design put information at your fingertips. Viewers could also take a peek at what was happening on campus thanks to the link to the web cam.
From 2003 to 2005, this version of ohio.edu prominently featured Outlook, Ohio University's news and information source (and the predecessor to Compass). Campus beauty continued to be showcased and the events surrounding the University's bicentennial celebration were given a spotlight.
Prospective students were encouraged to apply in a number of different spots on the front door that lived at ohio.edu from 2005 to 2009. The style moved to a more linear look, while still offering quick links and search function features. OHIO was offering information to the University community through articles and video, including a live web stream of the State of the University address.
Perhaps the most familiar look of ohio.edu, this version has been in place since 2009 and will remain until the new ohio.edu design is launched in fall of 2014. Featuring the University's "it's you" branding campaign, images bring to life the different aspects of Ohio University. An eTour allows prospective students to check out OHIO remotely and the navigation options expanded with drop down side menus.
