UCM executive director shares her “musings” with new blog

Ohio University Communications and Marketing Executive Director Renea Morris is no stranger to writing. As the head of the department in charge of telling the University’s story, and as a regular contributor to Compass in her Branding OHIO series, Morris knows how to communicate. But now, she’s using a new platform to share her thoughts with the University community and beyond by blogging.
Morris launched UCMusings in late February. The blog is dedicated to capturing her reflections on University Communications and Marketing (UCM) and UCM’s efforts to promote Ohio University. February marked her fifth year as executive director of UCM.

“I wanted to give people an idea of what our team is doing behind the scenes. The work of UCM is everywhere, but people may not know it or know what all goes in to sharing OHIO’s great stories,” Morris said. “This blog is my opportunity to do that. I can give UCM a voice. ”

Through UCMusings, Morris gives readers insight into the ways in which she witnesses OHIO’s new “it’s you” branding campaign in living color through supportive professors like recently honored Distinguished Professor Tom Carpenter. She relates how she instilled in her children from an early age the importance of personal branding by telling them to be trendsetters. She shares personal anecdotes, such as the effect of taking an accidental (and then intentional) digital sabbatical, first by leaving her phone at home for the day and then by joining a national movement to unplug. If you’ve ever wondered about the stories behind the stories at UCM, Morris’ blog allows you to learn more about how UCM is working to promote the institution and keep the University community informed.

Morris tweets blog updates from her Twitter account, @OHIOReneaM, and invites the University community to share their musings by commenting and joining the conversation at UCMusings.com.
