The Summer Institute for Diversity Education (SIDE) will take place May 13 to 16 in the Ohio University Human Resources and Training Center through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
SIDE is a 30-hour curriculum seminar for Ohio University students, faculty and staff and community members to learn about diversity education and inclusiveness.
"I think that this is a life-changing event," said Stephanie Sanders, assistant director of diversity and inclusion. "You are challenged for the better all four days."
The training will be facilitated by Ohio University alumnus Mark P. Orbe, a faculty member at Western Michigan University School of Communication. He is an expert in interpersonal and intercultural communication and will teach participants how understanding diversity can positively impact not only Ohio, but the entire region.
"We try to meet the needs of the participants and offer them the tools they need to better understand diversity issues," said Sanders.
Registration is $300 and includes all training sessions, a resource manual, a formal opening dinner and breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks.
Five scholarships also are available through the Office for Diversity and Inclusion. The deadline to apply for a scholarship is Friday, April 18. For more information or to register, visit www.ohio.edu/diversity/side.
