From staff reports
Motorists and visitors to Ohio University's Athens Campus are advised there will be traffic and parking restrictions in place during a 5K event Sunday, Nov. 10.
The Color Run, a foot race in which participants are sprayed with colored food-grade cornstarch, will start at the intramural fields on South Green, continue west on Mill Street to Stewart Street and then turn left on to University Terrace. From there, participants will travel along South Green Drive to the parking lot near Peden Stadium (lot 132) and complete the course along the bike path back to the intramural fields. "Color zones" for participants to run, walk and jog through will be set up on Stewart Street, in parking lot 132 and twice along the bike path.
Road closures and lane restrictions
Beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, South Green Drive from Richland Avenue to Oxbow Trail will be reduced to one lane. Ohio University police officers will be on hand to direct traffic, alternating lanes between the two intersections. Affected sections of Mill, Stewart and Race streets will be closed during the event, as well as a portion of University Terrace. Roads will resume normal traffic patterns after 3 p.m., following the end of the race. This map illustrates the race route.
Parking lot closures and restrictions
University parking lots 104, 132 and 93 will be closed and cleared beginning at 5 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10. These lots will be open to Color Run participants beginning at 8 a.m. Signs will be posted in the lots.
The following lots will be barricaded during the race so vehicles cannot exit the lot and enter the race course:
Lots 43 and 44 (near McCracken Hall)
Jefferson Hall Garage
Lot 90 (near Morton Hall)
Lot 4 (Lower Scott Quad)
Lots 83 and 84 (behind Clippinger Hall)
Lots 86 and 88 (in front of Clippinger Hall)
OUPD estimates these lots will temporarily close at 1 p.m. and re-open after 3 p.m. Any cars in the affected lots during the temporary closure will not be towed, but will not be allowed to leave until the lot is re-opened.
