From staff reports
The Athens Campus community received the following message Monday, Oct. 7, regarding requests for Green Jacket volunteers for the weekend of the City of Athens Halloween street party.
The 2013 City of Athens Halloween street party is Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013.
In an effort to keep Ohio University and surrounding areas safe, the University utilizes a program known as "Green Jackets." This program was put in place to provide an additional presence on and around campus during this celebration. We are writing today to ask for the assistance of faculty and administrative staff.
Please consider volunteering to be a Green Jacket. Each pair or group of volunteers walks designated areas equipped with a flashlight, two-way radio, and a clearly marked Ohio University staff jacket and hat. The Green Jacket's role is to be a presence to help keep misbehavior to a minimum, provide assistance when necessary, serve as community eyes and ears and as a conduit to police (if needed), and check the doors of buildings. The shift is 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. and food and beverages will be provided during breaks. Volunteers will receive a $50 gift card.
Typically, 80-100 Green Jacket volunteers cover the campus and near campus areas on Saturday evening. If interested, please contact Jill Harris at email@example.com no later than Monday, Oct. 14.
Thank you for considering this request. The work we all do is important to maintaining the safety and security of our campus community.
