Meet the December Classified Employee of the Month

Compass features a Q&A with the Ohio University non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," will provide a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.

How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?

I was very surprised. My coworkers really know how to keep a secret.

What is your job title and how long have you worked it?

I'm an administrative associate in the Faculty Office at Southern Campus. I worked in Student Services for 10 years and I have worked in the Faculty Office for the past 13 years.

What are the most enjoyable things about your job?

I enjoy interacting with people – staff, faculty, and students. There are a lot of supportive people here who make it a pleasure to come to work.

What is your hometown and where do you live now?   

I'm from Ashland, Ohio. We have lived in Ironton for about 25 years.

What was the last good book you read?

I read "Emma" by Jane Austen. I liked the way the title character developed and there were some interesting surprises in the plot.

If you weren't in your present job, you would be working as a ______.

That's a tough question for someone who has been working at a job they enjoy for such a long time. I do have a love of reading, so maybe a librarian.

What things in life are the most important to you?

Good health, family and friends.

Where is your favorite vacation destination?

I'm kind of a history buff and enjoy visiting historic homes. Combine that with a trip to the beach and you have my idea of the perfect vacation.

What are your hobbies?

I like reading, watching TV and visiting with family.

What is something that most people don't know about you?

I have a collection of carousel horses.

What are your favorite TV shows?

I watch "The Today Show" and "NCIS."

Who are your favorite musicians?

I enjoy classic rock musicians. I haven't really had a favorite since The Beatles.

Who is your favorite celebrity?

Baby Prince George. He's so cute!

What is your dream vehicle?

When they build one that never breaks down it will be my dream car. I really like the Honda CRV that I'm driving now.
