From staff reports
Kennedy Museum of Art offers Art Encounters, art classes for children ages 5 to 12, on select Saturday afternoons 1:30 to 3 p.m. Classes scheduled for spring semester 2014 include:
Figurative Ceramics on January 25 and February 1, $35 fee.
Serigraph Prints on March 15, $20 fee.
Perspective Drawing on April 5, $20 fee.
Art Encounters classes are studio art making activities related to the Museum’s exhibitions and collections and incorporate a discussion of objects on view. Students in the Figurative Ceramics (1/25 & 2/1) class will have the opportunity to view ceramic pieces in the School of Art +Design Faculty exhibition and then create their own clay figure – human, animal or alien.
The second session will be devoted to painting and embellishing the figure. Students in the Serigraph Prints (3/15) class will learn the silk-screening technique of printmaking and create their own edition of color prints like those in the Museum’s Print Collection. Students in the Perspective Drawing (4/5) class will learn the fundamentals of representing three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional picture plane, as seen in works on view in the Recent Acquisitions exhibition.
KMA members receive a 10 percent discount on classes. For KMA membership information contact Lori Spencer, email@example.com.
