The Ohio University Alumni Association will sponsor the best-ever activities for alumni of all ages during this year's Homecoming weekend Oct.12-14.
"Better Than the Best Ever" is this year's theme in honor of the late Ron Socciarelli, conductor of the Marching 110 for nearly 20 years. Socciarelli was a large influence on his students and wanted them to be 'better than the best ever.'
Although Homecoming begins on campus Oct. 8, alumni returning to campus for the weekend will enjoy Historical Hayrides at The Ridges on Oct. 12 and on, Oct. 13 to include horse-drawn carriage rides and hot chocolate. On Friday, author Katherine Ziff will be signing copies of her book "Asylum on the Hill."
Also on Friday evening is the annual Alumni Awards Gala at Baker University Center Ballroom from 5:30-9 p.m. Tickets to the optional black tie event are $75 and include admission to a dinner, reception and program honoring esteemed alumni and the 1960 OHIO Football Team.
The morning of, Oct. 13 offers a free Alumni Coffee Hour at 9:30 a.m. in the Baker University Center's Front Room coffeehouse. Coffee, hot chocolate and specialty drinks will be provided at no charge from 9:30-10:30 a.m., courtesy of the Alumni Association and Nationwide Insurance.
The annual Homecoming Parade begins at 10 a.m. with a new route this year. Coordinated by the Ohio University Homecoming Steering Committee, the parade will start on West Union Street and travel south on Court Street to the viewing stands at Baker University Center.
A pre-game Bobcat Bash will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the first floor and Atrium Café in Grover Center. Included in the $18 ticket is music, picnic food, beverages (including beer and wine) and free OHIO merchandise for attendees. Tickets are $9 for kids ages 6-12 and those under 5 are free.
The Bobcat Bash leads up to the OHIO vs. Akron football game at 2 p.m., featuring a Marching 110 halftime performance and presentation of the 2012 Alumni Awardees.
Homecoming weekend attendees can renew their vows at the Alumni Association's "OH, I dO" vow renewal ceremony scheduled for 18:04 (6:04 p.m.) at Konneker Alumni Center. Couples will receive a champagne toast with keepsake glass, commemorative photo and a paper Passion Works Studio flower.
