Ohio University Professor of Music Andre Gribou will present "The History of Rock & Roll" at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26 in the Baker University Center Front Room.
He will host a lively discussion and perform the music that has shaped our culture. This is the first of a monthly series of Café Conversations and is free and open to the public.
"It (music) permeates everything in terms of our personal styles, preferences and histories, and how we see the timelines of our lives in several ways," Gribou says.
From Chuck Berry and Elvis to Springsteen and Jack White, rock/pop musicians have influenced the American culture in a unique way.
"The historical and cultural significance of that is really profound if we bother to look at it," Gribou says. "To me, it's not just about teaching the trivia of groups; it's about teaching the idea of how popular culture works."
