Since 1958, the Ohio University Players at Monomoy Theatre have made an annual pilgrimage to the Monomoy Theatre in Chatham, Massachusetts, to put on a challenging play a week, from musicals to Shakespeare. The Theatre, purchased by former Ohio University First Lady Elizabeth Baker, trains the University's graduate and undergraduate students in all aspects of theater. The theatre also has drawn many alumni and friends to Cape Cod for a special summer weekend.
The Ohio University Alumni Association (OUAA) and the Massachusetts Chapter Serving New England will host the annual Monomoy Weekend on June 28-30. The weekend was founded and sustained by numerous volunteers and hosted by the late Robert Axline, BSCO '57, and his family for decades.
“I am thrilled to be joining the OHIO family, since I was born and raised in the Buckeye State,” said newly appointed Dean of the College of Fine Arts Peg Kennedy-Dygas. “What a pleasure it will be to enjoy the Monomoy Weekend and to celebrate the remarkable talents of our theater students and faculty. I'm hoping to meet as many alums as possible as we come "home" to Monomoy in several weeks!”
This year's activities will include a reception at Jean Axline’s home and university officials President Roderick J. McDavis, Vice President for University Advancement Bryan Benchoff, College of Fine Arts Dean Peg Kennedy-Dygas, Director of the School of Dance, Film, and Theater Madeline Scott, College of Fine Arts Development Director Julie Zdanowicz, and Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations and Executive Director of Ohio University Alumni Association Jen Neubauer.
Jean Axline and her family will host Saturday's dinner and the theatre's performance of The King and I, a musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. On Sunday morning, Jean Axline will host the President's reception at her home in Chatham to discuss updates at Ohio University.
On-line registration is open until Friday, June 14, 2013.
