Ohio University is ready to welcomes moms to campus on Friday, April 5 through Sunday, April 7 for its annual Moms Weekend featuring a long list of lively events.
Students like Jazmine Reed and Ellen Kamenar look forward to supporting and engaging in the local community by taking their moms to the 13th Annual Mom’s Walk for the Cure.
“It will be the first time my mom comes to visit on Moms Weekend, so we are both very excited and wanted to do something special together,” said Reed, a senior journalism major.
Whether you and your mom are interested in giving back to the community, shopping, exercise, the outdoors or entertainment there are activities for you to enjoy.
“We walked for the cure last year and we are really looking forward to be a part of it again this year, as well as check out some fun free things to do on campus,” said junior nursing major Kamenar.

13th Annual Mom's Walk for the Cure
Join the University Program Council, moms, faculty and community members in a scenic walk around campus to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer research. The walk starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at the Ping Recreation Center. Registration for the event continues through April 4 at 9 p.m. The $15 participation fee includes a T-shirt.
Looking to bond with your mom through some fun exercise?
Moms Weekend Zumbathon
This Latin inspired and upbeat dance workout will keep you and your mom moving. The Zumbathon takes place Saturday, April 6 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Ping Recreation Center Area A. The cost is $5per person and benefits the Big Brothers, Big Sisters foundation.
Manic Moms’ Night Out
Remember the 80’s? Your mom will! Manic Moms’ Night out is a sketch- comedy/ 80’s rock and roll show. Join the community and university writers and actors as well as the house band, Holy Spicoli on Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at 80 East State St. to celebrate. Get there early for food and refreshments. Tickets are $15 and benefits Ohio Valley Summer Theater, Athens’ non-profit community theater.
The Rose Tattoo by Tennessee Williams
This classic comedy explores the price of devotion and the lies that love endangers. Performances are April 5-6 at 8 p.m. in the Elizabeth Evans Baker Theater at Kantner Hall. Ticket Prices: Free to Ohio University students with a valid university ID, $10 general admission, $7 senior citizens, $7 non-Ohio University students, $5 high school students
19th Annual Moms Weekend Cabaret
This classy annual Moms Weekend event put on by the Epsilon Omicron of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. provides live entertainment and food. The event price is $5 and takes place in Baker University Center Ballroom Saturday, April 6 from 7:30 p.m.- to 11 p.m.
"Woof & Wine" Tasting Fundraiser
Bring your mom to this event to sample wine and cheese, participate in a silent auction, enjoy live music and more. Tickets are $20 per person and all proceeds benefit the Athens County Humane Society.
Shop till you drop:
Ping Center will be hosting a market of local vendors where mothers and students can shop for items such as jewelry, clothing, arts and crafts, makeup and much more. Shop on Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Native American Jewelry Show & Sale
Friends of the Kennedy Museum of Art are sponsoring the annual Native American Jewelry Show & Sale during Moms Weekend on Friday, April 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Kennedy Museum of Art.
Bahama Bring Your Momma
This annual tradition at Boyd Dining Hall on West Green offers music and dancing along with free fun activities. There will also be door prizes including a Pandora bracelet, a Keurig coffee maker and a Kindle Fire. The event takes place on Friday, April 5 from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Moms Weekend Fashion Show: Party at Gatsby's
Join the Party at Gatsby's hosted by the Fashion Associates. This Gatsby-themed fashion show will feature clothing from local retailers. Refreshments provided.
Doors open at noon on Saturday, April 6 in the Baker University Center Ballroom for a preshow and the purchase of raffle tickets. The runway show starts at 1 p.m.
