The Hugh M. Culbertson Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America held Beyond the Basics, a regional conference of public relations students and professionals at Ohio University on March 16. Ohio University’s PRSSA has not hosted a regional conference for more than five years.
“The conference was an amazing opportunity to showcase the immense talent and passion inside the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism,” said Allison Jordan, chapter president.
The purpose of the event was to unite students in Southeast Ohio with professionals in the Public Relations field to network and learn from each other. Speakers included Ben Lincoln, writing director at GolinHarris; Richard J. Batyko, president of the Regional Marketing Alliance of Northeast Ohio; and Demi Knight Clark, an integrative health coach from Duke University. Presentations covered social media, crisis management, and life after graduation.
“Beyond the Basics was an amazing opportunity to network with professionals in the PR field,” said member Kerry Tuttle. “Also, it was great way to meet students from surrounding universities who are as equally driven and passionate about the PR industry as I am.”
