Leave policies aid in work-life balance

In an effort to recruit and retain talented faculty and staff, the university provides several ways to help individuals manage their professional responsibilities along with their personal commitments.

Two new programs were recently implemented that promise to assist individuals in constructing a positive work/life balance. The Winter Break Closure was instituted in December 2012 and the Pilot Parental Leave Program was established at the beginning of January 2013. Policies for both of these initiatives can be found below along with additional information about ways that the university can assist its employees in finding equilibrium between the personal and the professional.

Please take the time to review leave usage policies:

Until University Human Resources can capture all leave usage information electronically, faculty and administrative staff must report all vacation and sick leave usage via the paper Paid Time Off form. Check with your unit's administrative office about the protocol for submitting forms.

The forms should be submitted in a timely manner to the Payroll Office so employee accrual information may be reported and managed accurately. It is recommended that the forms be sent no later than two business days after the leave.
