Boil order issued for Athens campus

Order expires 10 p.m. Wednesday

The City of Athens has issued a boil order that includes all of Ohio University Athens campus with the exception of the Ridges. This boil order expires at 10 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 27.

A "boil order" is a precautionary measure. The Ohio EPA recommends public water suppliers issue a boil order anytime the pressure in the water distribution system drops below 20 psi and the system is compromised due to a water main break, local flooding, structure fires, or even regular operational maintenance. Based on careful analysis by water system personnel, boil orders are only issued for specific areas, and usually for not more than 24 hours.

There is no life safety threat to the campus. Campus remains open, classes will continue as normal. All events to include events at Memorial Auditorium and the Convo will continue and are not cancelled.

Domestic hot water will not be fully restored until sometime Wednesday.
