With three weeks remaining in Ohio University's United Appeal fundraising campaign, University faculty and staff still need to raise $26,708 to meet the campaign's annual fundraising goal of $50,000.
United Appeal's "United 2 Give, United 2 Help" fundraiser runs through Dec. 24. The campaign will benefit Athens County 2-1-1 as well as 19 local agencies - the greatest number of local partnerships in United Appeal's 57-year history.
This year's campaign got off to a strong start, collecting $10,000 in pledges during the campaign's first three days.
The shorter duration of this year's campaign likely compelled some donors to pledge quickly, noted OHIO's United Appeal Co-Chair Jessica Wingett. But keeping this momentum through the holiday season will be a challenge, according to Executive Director of United Appeal for Athens County Pam Harvey.
"Every dollar given will help improve circumstances for someone in Athens County, so no matter how small or large the gift, we hope people take an extra moment to give," Harvey said.
As of Nov. 21, the Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) in the College of Business led OHIO's departmental giving with pledges of $2,100. The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences trailed with $1,000 in donations, while the Registrar's Office and the Geriatrics Department in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine had each contributed $720.
This year's campaign aims for 12 percent participation among University faculty and staff. As of Nov. 21, only 2 percent had pledged support, and many of these are first-time contributors, noted Harvey.
"Many new donors have contributed to the campaign so far, both on campus and around the county," Harvey said. "We encourage all faculty and staff to consider what local projects and causes are important to them this holiday season, and they will probably find a matching charity within United Appeal's campaign."

Payroll deduction offers an easy way to support United Appeal's local partners throughout the calendar year.
For those who authorize it on the United Appeal pledge form, payroll deductions will be taken out of paychecks beginning Jan. 1. This will be done on a semi-monthly basis, per the University's new pay cycle.
