Last call for United Appeal

With one week remaining in Ohio University's United Appeal campaign, OHIO is approximately $9.5K short of the campaign's $50K fundraising goal. OHIO faculty and staff wishing to pledge support are encouraged to do so prior to the campaign's close on Dec. 24.

For 57 years, United Appeal has been working to serve the Athens community, providing much-needed financial assistance to health and human service programs throughout the county. This year, the organization is partnering with a record 19 local agencies, all of which will benefit from OHIO's fundraising efforts.

"Your gift has immediate impacts on local people with mental health crisis, providing counseling and support groups; your gift puts emergency food supplies into families hands; your gift helps a little sister at Trimble or Amesville elementary school connect with a mentor; your gift helps a hospice patient and their family get the direct care they need regardless of their ability to pay," said Executive Director of United Appeal for Athens County Pam Harvey.

This year's campaign aims for 12 percent participation among University faculty and staff. As of Dec. 14, approximately 5 percent had pledged support, according to OHIO's United Appeal Co-Chair Jessica Wingett.

"United Appeal will use your gift immediately and throughout the coming year to help people find the service they need and to help cover the costs of those direct services whether or not the client has their own means to pay," Harvey said. "We depend on your generosity to help others, and we value your gift because one gift keeps on giving all year."

A gift that keeps giving: Payroll deduction

Payroll deduction offers an easy way to support United Appeal's local partners throughout the calendar year.

For those who authorize it on the United Appeal pledge form, payroll deductions will be taken out of paychecks beginning Jan. 1. This will be done on a semi-monthly basis, per the University's new pay cycle.
