President welcomes students to OHIO

On Tuesday, Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis welcomed all OHIO students to the University in an email.

Dear Students,

It is great to welcome back returning students and to greet the newest members of the Bobcat family. I hope you had a good summer and are refreshed and energized for a great academic year.

The vision of Ohio University is to be the nation's best transformative learning community where students realize their promise, faculty advance knowledge, staff achieve excellence, and alumni become global leaders. In pursuit of our vision, faculty, staff and students are exploring how we can make the most of collaboration, technology, and innovation while asking and answering difficult questions about what things we must stop doing because they no longer have relevance.

As members of our community, students play an important role in achieving our vision.  Please be an active participant in the process by sharing your ideas with me during my monthly open office hours, by emailing me at, and by talking with your student leaders.

Our faculty and staff are here to support you as you realize your promise. In return we ask you to join us in our efforts to achieve our vision. It is important to you, to the students who follow, to our university, and to our shared service to humanity.

Let's have a great 2011-12! I look forward to hearing from you!

Go Bobcats!
