The Healthy Ohio wellness initiative is conducting free health screenings for faculty and their spouses/partners from 7 to 9 a.m., Monday through Thursday until Nov. 3 at the Human Resources and Training Center on the Ohio University Athens campus.
Employees who participate in this program will receive a $10 per month (before taxes) insurance premium reduction for one year, equaling approximately $120. There is a chance to double this amount if a spouse or partner also participates. The money will be added to the employee's paycheck and the reduction will begin January 2012.
"It’s a way for Ohio University, as an employer, to really reach out to people," said Kim Valentour, director of WellWorks. "We care about their health and want to help them get a baseline of what their health is about and things that they might want to change."
The wellness initiative consists of three steps. The first is an approximately 20-minute health screening.
After the screening, participants are required to complete an online personal wellness profile. This survey contains questions about medical history and health habits. The results of this survey containing an overview of the health, disease risk and suggested improvements should be printed in preparation for the third step.
From Oct. 10 through Dec. 2 at WellWorks located in Grover Center E124, individual health coaching sessions will be held. The purpose of the coaching sessions is to help participants better understand survey results and to provide health information and resources.
