Career Week begins Sept. 26

Jobs and internships up for grabs

Ohio University Career Services will host 2011 Career Week beginning Monday, Sept. 26.

Career Week is designed to help Ohio University students gain an edge in the increasingly competitive job market. The programs and workshops held during the week will assist students in all aspects of career development and introduce them to potential employers. The week concludes with the Fall Career and Internship Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

Throughout the week, students will be able to attend workshops to assist with resume building, networking and interviewing skills. On Oct. 3, they will be able to utilize these new skills on Mock Interview Day, which will give them an opportunity to practice interviewing skills and gain feedback from employers before the Career Fair.

A new addition this year is the Call to Serve Speakers Bureau, which will host three programs that inform students about internships and careers in the federal government.

The Fall Career and Internship Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in the Baker University Center Ballroom.

Representatives from more than 80 companies will be in attendance looking to fill full-time positions and internships.

Students are recommended to dress in professional attire and to bring resumes and a student ID. Attendees are also encouraged to do some research on the companies that they hope to interview with.

"Preparation is the number one thing. Organizations really appreciate when students do the research and prepare," said Kristine Hoke, assistant director of Career Services.

Attending the events during Career Week is not only a good idea for graduating students, but also for underclassmen.

"It's important for students not to think Career Week is just for seniors. A lot of the events would be great for juniors and sophomores as well," Hoke said.
