Honors Tutorial College celebrates 40 years of academic excellence

Alumni, friends, faculty mentors and former deans will join Dean Jeremy Webster and the Honors Tutorial College (HTC) staff to celebrate the college’s 40th anniversary at the HTC Alumni Reunion on April 13 and 14.

On May 9, 1972, the University Curriculum Council approved Professor Ellery Golos’ proposal for a tutorial system, officially creating the Honors Tutorial College. Golos became the director and named Margaret Cohn assistant director. Since then, the college has thrived under several deans and assistant deans. Visit http://www.honors.ohio.edu/about/history.html to view a timeline of the college’s history.

The reunion will include career and graduate school roundtables with alumni and students, an Ellery Golos Lecture by Adam Hochberg, a telecommunications alumnus of 1985, a student showcase of research and creative activity and a banquet with award presentations.

The Golos Lecture will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Common Room of 35 Park Place. Hochberg , a Poynter Institute fellow and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill journalism instructor, will address social media and its challenges for both mainstream news consumers and journalists. It is open to the public.

The student showcase will be held in 35 Park Place’s Common Room on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday evening’s banquet, with a speech by 2011 Outstanding Alumna Anna Harvey, a 1988 graduate in political science, will take place in the Ping Center atrium. Harvey’s speech will address the democratic case for striking the Affordable Care Act. Banquet tickets may be purchased at www.ohioalumni.org/htc40 by clicking on “Event registration now available.”
