University asks employees to volunteer for Halloween

Ohio University is seeking faculty and administrative staff volunteers to be "Green Jackets" and provide an additional presence on the Athens campus and in surrounding areas during the 2011 Halloween event in the City of Athens, Saturday, Oct. 29.

The University typically uses 80-90 Green Jacket volunteers during the evening.  Interested individuals should contact Jen Maskiell at flowersj@ohio.edu no later than Friday, Oct. 21.

Volunteers walk in pairs in designated areas. Volunteers are equipped with a flashlight, two-way radio, and a clearly marked Ohio University staff jacket and hat.

The shift is six hours (9:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.) and food and beverages are provided during breaks. Volunteers will receive a $25 gift card to Baker University Center in appreciation for their efforts.

"Our Green Jackets help keep our community and university safer during the event," said Christine Sheets, executive director of Residential Housing. "They provide assistance when necessary and are our eyes and ears during the event. In past years, they have served as checks on misbehavior and have helped to protect personal safety and property by ensuring that buildings remain secured throughout the event."
