Kent Smith joins Langston University

On Thursday, Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis sent an email to the entire University community regarding Vice President for Student Affairs Kent Smith's departure.

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students,

As you were probably aware, Kent Smith, vice president for student affairs, interviewed and became a finalist for the position of president of Langston University. Today, he was selected to fill the position, and he accepted the offer.

On behalf of the students, faculty and staff of Ohio University, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Kent Smith on being named the next president of Langston University. The powerful legacy he leaves at OHIO extends to our students, faculty, staff and the greater Athens community.

We are very proud that Langston University has recognized his talents and chosen him to lead their institution. We know that he and his family will infuse the Langston University community with energy, passion, and a vision of excellence for the future. The OHIO Student Affairs team that Dr. Smith has mentored and developed stands ready to fulfill our vision to be the nation's best transformative learning community.

Kent's presidency begins July 1. Until then, we will be working together on a succession plan.
