OHIO names chief audit executive

On Friday, the Ohio University Board of Trustees named Jeffrey Davis as the University's next chief audit executive.

In this position, he will be responsible for managing the Office of Internal Audit, which reports to the Board of Trustees Audit Committee. Internal Audit conducts operational audits of all university units to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of financial controls, to identify and assess risks and to ensure compliance with policies, laws and regulations.

John Biancamano, the University's general counsel, chaired the search committee, which presented its recommendation to C. Robert Kidder, chair of the Ohio University Board of Trustees on Thursday. Committee member and member of the Board of Trustees David Wolfort contacted Davis Friday to offer him the position.

"Special thanks to Trustee Wolfort and the members of the search committee, which was ably led by Mr. Biancamano," said President Roderick J. McDavis in a message to trustees and executive staff. "I know that Jeff is enthusiastic about taking on this leadership role in service to the Ohio University Board of Trustees."

Prior to being named audit manager, Davis was a senior auditor at Ohio University (2005-2007) and an audit manager for the State of Ohio Office of the Auditor (1993-2005). He graduated from OHIO in 1993 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting. He is a certified public accountant in the State of Ohio, certified internal auditor, certified information system auditor and a certified fraud examiner.

Davis will replace Chief Audit Executive Kathryn "Kathy" Gilmore who will retire Jan. 31. He takes over the position Feb. 1.

Gilmore has been with the University for 13 years and has been overseeing the University's audit function as chief audit officer since 2003. In her time at OHIO, Gilmore has seen her office grow in efficiency and scope. Though at one time she was the only Internal Audit employee, she now transfers to Davis a well-trained staff to lead.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to be the University’s chief audit executive," said Davis. "I will build on the great work of the former chief audit executive, Kathy Gilmore, and I look forward to continued collaboration with the University community."
