University, City of Athens collaboration enables purchase of new fire truck

OHIO pledges $250,000 to city as part of new memorandum of understanding

Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis today responded to Athens City Council Resolution R-05-11. The resolution urged Ohio University to contribute $50,000 per year for five years to the City of Athens for the exclusive use of payment on a new fire ladder truck.

Ohio University will make this financial commitment to the City of Athens as one part of a more comprehensive formalized memorandum of understanding (MOU). The MOU will address the financial commitment for the purchase of a fire ladder truck in a broader context that codifies multiple other collaborations between the City of Athens and Ohio University.

McDavis and Athens Mayor Paul Wiehl have agreed to form a work group, comprised of representatives from the University and the City of Athens, which will be tasked with developing the MOU prior to the end of the calendar year.

"The University looks forward to formalizing many of the collaborations that we have in place with the city and exploring opportunities for new collaboration," said Rebecca Watts, chief of staff and special assistant to the president.
