Majors Fair is Wednesday

Event helps students select major

Choosing a major can be a challenging task for many college students. Because Ohio University offers more than 270 majors within its nine undergraduate colleges, making a final choice is not always easy.

To ease that decision, the university will host a Majors Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the Baker University Center Ballroom. Now in its eighth year, the Fair's primary goals are to provide information on academic programs and answer questions about selecting a major.

In summary, the Majors Fair gives students a place to go for help in exploring their potential majors, minors and certificate programs.

Deans, assistant deans and faculty will be in attendance to provide information and answer questions. Current Ohio University students from all colleges and majors, as well as prospective students from regional high schools are encouraged to attend.

Based on student evaluations from last year’s Majors Fair:

  • 51 percent of the student attendees reported that they narrowed their choice of a major
  • 10 percent declared their major
  • 5 percent declared a minor

Students can also visit the Fair and learn about:

  • internships
  • studying abroad
  • academic resources on campus

The Majors Fair is a university-wide event planned by a University committee of faculty, staff, and students.
