From staff reports
Summer means that it is time for roadwork. Below are updates on two roadwork projects from the City of Athens.
Mill Street Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project
Construction of the Mill Street Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project will continue throughout this week within the McKinley Avenue and Elliot Street Section of Mill Street, next week the contractor is expecting to work between Elliot Street and Hocking Street.
Mill Street will be open to local traffic only within the work zone. The contractor will be coordinating with residents and businesses within these areas for access needs.
This project consists of replacing the existing 10" and 15" sanitary sewers with a new 18" sanitary sewer along Mill Street between McKinley Avenue and Kurtz Street. New manholes will also be constructed. Designated sections of sidewalk and curb will be replaced, and Mill Street will be asphalt overlaid after sewer construction is complete.
This project is partially funded through Community Development Block Grant Funds from the Ohio Department of Development and is scheduled for completion in late August 2011.
The City of Athens apologizes for any inconvenience that may be incurred during this work. Questions or concerns may be directed to the City of Athens Engineering and Public Works Department, 740-593-7636.
East Union Street, between Stewart Street and East Green Drive, will be closed to through-traffic between July 11 through July 12. The contractor will be completing repairs to the storm line and street during this time.
The street will remain open to delivery traffic and emergency vehicle traffic. Pedestrians are encouraged to use alternate routes - from south of Jeff Hill take Shively Drive across from Biddle Hall to the steps behind Bryan Hall; from north of Jeff Hill use the walk near Siegfried Hall and Glidden Hall to Putnam and McCracken Halls.
