Women in Philanthropy conference to honor women's contributions

Registration deadline is Wednesday

Women in Philanthropy of Ohio University (WIP) will host the "OHIO Women Making a Difference Conference," April 27-28, on Ohio University's Athens campus.

The biennial conference, which is open to the public, is an opportunity to network, learn, have fun and celebrate and honor the contributions that women have provided to their communities.

This year's lineup is promising an unforgettable experience by bringing together a unique group of women, specializing in a multitude of professions.

"Divas and Desserts" will kick off the conference on Wednesday evening with a networking reception and mixer. The keynote speaker is Ohio University alumna Janelle Simmons. She is the director of community relations and philanthropy for Limited Brands, Inc. and has a bachelor's degree in journalism. She has appeared on the
Columbus Business First Forty Under 40 and Who's Who in Black Columbus lists.

Simmons is a public relations and development professional with more than 15 years of experience in helping non-profits meet their resource development goals through strategic marketing, communications, and fundraising.

Thursday's events begin with an introduction from Associate Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit. Six breakout sessions make up the remainder of the morning events. Panel sessions include "Managing Your Professional Image," "Taking Your Destiny into Your Own Hands" and "Women's Health Through the Decades."

After Thursday's breakout sessions, Ohio University first lady Deborah McDavis will introduce keynote speaker and alumna Beverly Jones, who will talk about implementing effectiveness and change management. She also will share her executive life coaching
tips that have propelled professionals to the next steps in their careers.

Jones earned a journalism bachelor's degree and MBA from Ohio University before attending the Georgetown University Law School. As a student, she wrote a landmark report, "The Status of Women at Ohio University," which resulted in the University's first affirmative action program.

During Thursday's luncheon, WIP will host the "Power of the Purse" silent auction, which features themed gift packages in purses for every occasion.

The deadline to register for the conference is April 20. Visit the conference website for more information or to register.
