Friday block party to celebrate Earth Day and Athens

The Ohio University Office of Off-Campus Living will host the second annual Earth Day Green Event (EDGE) on Friday, April 22, from 3-7 p.m. on Union Street, between Court Street and College Street.

It will showcase local vendors and organizations in Athens and let them exhibit their projects and efforts to make Athens a beautiful and sustainable community.

The block party will celebrate Earth Day and the uniqueness of Athens. It will feature local music, the winners of an Athens Middle School poster contest, activities and crafts for children of all ages, and food from the local Farmers Market.

"Athens is a unique and beautiful place, rich with diversity and sustainability and this event will recognize the people who make it that way," said Alyssa Rice, a community assistant.

Community assistants are students hired by Off-Campus Living to serve as a resource for off-campus students. Their responsibilities are disseminating information, solving problems, and coordinating programs for students living in a designated Athens neighborhood.

The block party is free and open to the public.
