Compass features a Q&A with the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Each month, Classified Senate selects an employee to acknowledge and recognize as someone who is setting high standards for excellence and innovation. The monthly feature, titled "Great Job," will provide a glimpse into the honoree's life on and off campus.
How surprised were you to win the Employee of the Month award?
I was extremely surprised. Parking Services is not a popular department by any stretch of the imagination, so I never thought that someone here would win this award.
What is your job title and how long have you worked it?
I have been an administrative associate in Parking Services for almost three years and I've been with Ohio University for 12 years.
What are the best things about your job?
I really enjoy working with the student staff. They keep the atmosphere light and fun. I'm a real people person, so I enjoy the interaction with the customers. When customers come in the office
with their emotions running high because of a citation they’ve received, it is a very rewarding feeling to be able to calm them and have them leave in a much better mood then when they arrived.
What is your hometown?
I was born in Columbus, Ohio, but I have lived in Shade for most of my life.
What are your long-term goals?
What was the last good book you read?
"Snow White," my granddaughter loves it.
If you weren't in your present job, you would probably be working as a ______.
I would be a cruise ship event planner. You would get to have fun with people and play all day.
What things in life are the most important to you?
Family, good health and good friends.
What are your next vacation plans?
I will be going to Hilton Head for a week on my next vacation. Last year we spent two weeks in Disney World with the kids and the grandchildren, so I’m ready for a laid back beach vacation.
What do you do in your spare time?
Spend time with my family and shop.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
Most people think I can’t cook because my husband does the majority of the cooking. I can cook, but I have no problem letting him do it.
What are your favorite TV shows?
I watch "Judge Judy," "Dancing with the Stars" and "Extreme Home Makeover."
What is your favorite music?
Country music -- hands down.
What is your favorite saying or quote?
"Don't follow your dreams; chase them."
